Why a 6-month long trip around the globe?

Have you ever seen the movie "The Secret Life of Walter Mitty"? Every time I hear the song "Wake up" by Arcade Fire that is featured in this amazing movie, I always have to sing along to it.

In this movie, Ben Stiller's character shows us all the things that could go wrong on an (unplanned!) trip but also how he overcomes those situations and changes the character from dreamer to actor in his own life.

Let's face it, we've all been there! Whether you are on your way to work or just sitting in a park watching people go by, you let your imagination transport you to a world of adventures. Like in the movie, the usual "metro boulot dodo" (subway, work, sleep) routine becomes a time when you start dreaming of discovering new worlds full of surprises and danger.

We recognized a part of ourselves in the movie and, in a way, it inspired us to do the biggest, craziest thing in our lives - to leave our daily routines behind for 6 months, pack our bags and travel around the globe.

Yes I know, this might not seem like the craziest thing in the world to you. But I have always been a worker by nature. I worked hard at school and have been working a high stress corporate job for over a decade, so dropping everything and leaving for such an extended period of time was not an easy decision to make.

So, after 2 years of not being able to travel anywhere due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the routine, personal events and a belief that the current international crisis is here to stay, we wanted to do like Walter Mitty and just go! But as we are not the type of people that can make rash decisions, we have been preparing this trip for the last 5 months.

And now I need to go play the Arcade Fire song again to get back into dreaming/planning mode!
