Happy and well fed in Porto!

After painfully long and delayed flights due to Lisboa's current airport staff constraints and our inability to fall asleep, we are finally in Porto.

As painful as it was, at least we were able to put our worries to rest as our 45L+ backpacks passed as carry-on luggage without any issues, at least with TAP Portugal. We will test this over and over again but it reassures us a bit for the rest of the flights we have booked.

Another reward for enduring these flights was to enjoy the hospitality of the Portuguese family and their traditional family meals. I personally had not seen them in 3 years and was looking forward to enjoying their company. I had a great time even if my Portuguese comprehension skills still need a lot of improvement.

When you visit Portugal, you also can't wait to stuff your face with all the amazing meals and snacks (especially with jetlag, we are always hungry!). We had home cooked sardines among other types of fish, roasted chicken, panados (breaded turkey or chicken filets), vegetable soup and also some typical snacks and desserts, like pasteis de nata. 😋

The myth around these famous and delicious egg yolk tarts is that they were invented because the convents needed the egg white to starch the clerics' clothes during the Renaissance era and wanted to stop wasting the yolks. Not sure what they do with the egg whites nowadays 😉

All of this delicious food was paired with some great Portuguese wines (Port wine with appetizers and vinho verde to pair with the fish).

Estou tão cheio!!!
